Highlights of Battle Of Decatur September 2nd, 3rd and 4th at Point Mallard Park! Travel back to 1864 when John Bell Hood was marching through northern Alabama on his way to Tennessee. When Hood arrived in Decatur he found a Federal infantry force of 3,000 to 5,000 men.
